Manchester Airport’s £1.3billion Terminal 2 departure lounge opens with big-name shops
@Source: manchestereveningnews.co.uk
Photos show a new section of Manchester Airport’s Terminal 2 departure lounge which opened to the public this week with the likes of LEGO, Pandora and Joe & The Juice opening their doors to passengers. Six new shops and eateries have opened in this section of the lounge: LEGO, Pandora, Rituals, Joe & The Juice, Starbucks and Upper Crust. It’s the latest milestone in the airport’s £1.3billion 10-year transformation plan of Terminal 2, which has seen it more than double in size. In 2021 an extension to the terminal opened and the airport is now in the final stages of overhauling the original Terminal 2 building to bring it up to the same standard as the extension, mirroring the modern look and feel. Stay connected with our City Life newsletter here Photos of the new section show similar design features which will already be familiar to passengers who’ve passed through the Terminal 2 extension, including curved wooden benches and honeycomb ceiling lights. The new section of the lounge has new shopping facilities for passengers, including an exciting LEGO shop which will be a hit among families and younger passengers, and Pandora, perfect for an indulgent gift. Before their flight passengers can grab refreshments from Upper Crust, Starbucks, and Joe & The Juice. The transformation plan is set to be completed later this year, with more than 70 per cent of the airport’s passengers expected to use the new facilities. Terminal 1 will close when it is fully open. Further shops and restaurants are expected to open in the coming months – including Chanel, Grindsmith by WH Smith, a Fever Tree cocktail and champagne bar, and the Great Northern Market – a food court with a selection of street food options. We have a busy few months ahead of us as we finish this transformative 10-year project. “We’re proud to connect the people of the North with the world, and these new facilities will allow them to travel in the style befitting a major international hub, while also creating a striking first impression for visitors to our region. “Manchester and the North are woven through the fabric of this terminal building, from the worker bee and honeycomb motif in the terminal’s design, to the many Northern brands operating shops and restaurants in our departure lounge. We’re thrilled to see the last pieces of the project coming together and we’re sure the 70 per cent or so of our passengers who will use the final product will be as pleased with it as we are.”
