Manchester United defender Patrick Dorgu reacts to competition with Diego Leon
@Source: manchestereveningnews.co.uk
Patrick Dorgu believes Manchester United's new signing Diego Leon is a "top player." Leon made his debut for the club in the opening pre-season friendly against Leeds on Saturday. United agreed a £3.3million fee, rising to £7m with add-ons, with Cerro Porteno to sign Leon and the 18-year-old will be assessed in pre-season before a decision is made on his next step. Speaking before his arrival, Leon promised to "kill it" in pre-season, and he has impressed coaches in training at Carrington, which suggests he could have a role to play in Ruben Amorim's senior squad. That means Dorgu could face competition from Leon for his starting role at left-wing, but the Denmark international praised his new teammate and believes he can help United this season. "He's a top, top player," said Dorgu. "He's a good player, he's good for everyone. Everyone has competition in their positions. Every player has two or three players in their position. It's just going to help the team even more. Everyone's going to be on their toes, everyone's going to give 100 per cent to the team." The left-back also discussed Matheus Cunha, adding: "He's a tough player, he did really well last season with Wolves. Hopefully he can bring all the good qualities to us. "You can see today he's good carrying the ball, he's good in the small combination play. He can score goals and that's what we need. I think everyone is excited to see him play." Dorgu's fellow countryman, Rasmus Hojlund, was included in the wholesale changes for the second half against Leeds. Dorgu was asked whether Hojlund could get back to his best after taking a backwards step last season and responded: "I think most of the players had a step back last season. I think everyone wants to redeem themselves this season and I think Rasmus is the same." He continued: "I have more to bring to the team, more to give. I'm just getting ready for the season, using all these pre-season games to get fit. Hopefully we'll see the best of me and the team in the first game."
