Manchester United Fans Pepper Sprayed By French Police At Lyon: Report
@Source: news18.com
Manchester United fans allegedly had a rough time when their team faced Lyon, having been pepper-sprayed after the Red Devils’ 2-2 draw in the UEFA Europa League tie on Thursday.
A Manchester United fan has now revealed the complicated experience of his team’s supporters who were pepper sprayed at the venue when trying to use the washroom after the game.
“United fans pepper sprayed at full time trying to use the toilet in Lyon,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “UEFA/ French Police once again treating fans terribly,” the fan added.

In the same post, the fan highlighted how thousands of Manchester United supporters arrived at the stadium from a collection point miles away from the venue. The excessive distance between the two points resulted in a massive delay.
The fan claimed an additional holdback after the match, adding to their overall rough experience.

A Manchester United fan group recently hit out at the ‘draconian’ move that required over 3000 away supporters to meet at a business park eight miles away from the centre of Lyon.
It was reported that the English club’s bosses had informed their away supporters to meet at the Eurexpo Conference Centre to catch shuttle buses to the Groupama Stadium for the quarter-final first-leg tie. Supporters who made their arrangements to the venue wouldn’t have been allowed into the game even if they had a ticket.
The official account of Manchester United Supporters Trust spoke for many fans when they posted about the arrangements on X.
“We’ll review post-match reports before making any representations to UEFA,” they wrote.
“However we believe that stadia that cannot safely host away fans without the imposition of draconian restrictions should not be granted a license by UEFA to host matches,” MUST added.

Aside from the poor arrangements for their away fans, Manchester United failed to secure a win in the Europa League tie against Lyon. The Red Devils were held to a 2-2 draw, courtesy of a last-minute finish from Lyon’s Rayan Chekri. Ruben Amorim’s men will have the opportunity to close out the tie next week when Manchester United host the Ligue 1 outfit. The match will be played on April 18 at Old Trafford.
