Manchester United given Benjamin Sesko green light as transfer clause agreed

Manchester United’s hopes of signing Red Bull Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko in the summer transfer window have been given a boost with reports in Germany claiming that a release clause has been inserted into his contract. According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg , talk of a release clause in the forward’s contract had only been on the basis of a verbal agreement between the player and the club. However, that has now changed. It is reported that there is now a ‘fixed release clause’ in his contract that becomes active in the summer, and will remain in place until 2029. It is said that the value of the clause is tied to how the player performs between now and the end of the season. Factors such as games played, goals scored and assists provided could see the clause increase from around €70 million (£57.8m) to around €80 million (£66m). Therefore, the better the player does in the final part of the campaign, the more expensive he will be in the summer. United have been long-term admirers of Sesko, the Manchester Evening News reported back in 2022 that the club had held talks with the striker’s representatives over a possible move. The links have not gone away, with United among the clubs credited with an interest in the player over the last few windows. Sky Germany also name United as one of the interested clubs ahead of the summer window. However, both Tottenham and Arsenal are also named, meaning United are likely to face a lot of competition for the 21-year-old when the summer window opens.
