Manchester United hope to have three players back from injury this week

Ruben Amorim is planning to make wholesale changes for Manchester United's next Premier League fixture away to Brentford. Amorim picked one of his strongest available teams in the 1-1 draw with Bournemouth to maintain match rhythm ahead of the Europa League semi-final first leg at Athletic Bilbao on Thursday. However, Amorim is likely to rest the majority of United's probable starters for the second leg next Thursday when they travel to Brentford on Sunday. United kick off in Spain at 9pm local time on Thursday and the Brentford match is scheduled to start 65 hours later. The squad could stay overnight in Bilbao, as they have done after other late European away kick-offs. United hope to welcome back Amad and Matthijs de Ligt this week and use the Brentford fixture as an opportunity to give them game time. Amad has been sidelined for nearly three months with an ankle injury and De Ligt has missed the last seven matches with a foot injury. Left back Harry Amass and centre back Tyler Fredricson made their full debuts earlier this month and Chido Obi came on for his sixth substitute appearance at Bournemouth on Sunday. Luke Shaw played 90 minutes on his first club start in 434 days at Bournemouth, where Jonny Evans was on the bench. Evans has not played since December 18. Eleven academy players have made the United first team bench this season and are yet to make their debut. Right back Jaydan Kamason and centre back Godwill Kukonki were unused substitutes in the Europa League quarter-final second leg epic against Lyon. Kamason, 18, is a potential option for the right wing in the absence of Diogo Dalot, who could miss the rest of the season with a calf injury. Midfielder Toby Collyer could return for United this week, having sustained a "small issue" three weeks ago. Amorim said the 21-year-old would be unavailable for "a few weeks" on April 9. --- Here at the Manchester Evening News, we’re dedicated to bringing you the best Manchester United coverage and analysis.
