Manchester United player ratings vs Chelsea with a 3/10 but Harry Maguire good in defeat
@Source: manchestereveningnews.co.uk
Manchester United lost 1-0 to Chelsea in their final Premier League game before the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.
Ruben Amorim made five changes and picked such a strong side it could feasibly be his starting XI in Bilbao next week. Although United summoned up their most respectable showing in the Premier League for months, they were still beaten.
The result leaves United marooned in 16th and they have now gone eight league games without a win for the first time since January 1990.
Here are how the United players and manager rated at Stamford Bridge:
Andre Onana
Let off the hook when he palmed the ball back out to an offside Enzo Fernandez. Officials rightly overturned the penalty that was given against him. 6
Victor Lindelof
Had a confident first half as he bids to convince Amorim to start him in the final but got caught out for Marc Cucurella's winning goal. 5
Harry Maguire
Classily converted Bruno Fernandes' cross but strayed marginally offside in a commanding first half. A good individual performance. 7
A steady showing in the back three again, which would indicate a starting role against Spurs. Played more than 80 minutes. 6
Noussair Mazraoui
Switched from right centre back to the right wing and was a consistent and solid presence without offering much in attack. Lost Cucurella. 6
Transmitted his Europa League form to the Premier League for a useful run-out ahead of Wednesday. Came off early to save him for Spurs. 6
Bruno Fernandes
Dropped back into midfield and still imposed himself, crossing for Maguire's disallowed goal. Not as much on the ball after the pause. 6
Patrick Dorgu
Piqued Amorim with a wasteful pass and was a distant second-best in his duel with Reece James and he had no impact in the final third. 4
Not as threatening as he was against West Ham but worked hard and was on the front foot more with the game stretched in the second half but booked for diving. Denied by Robert Sanchez. 6
Mason Mount
Booed on his first return to Stamford Bridge as a starter. Responsible for United's only first-half shot that ended up closer to the corner flag. Went closer in the second. 6
Rasmus Hojlund
All-too-familiar fare from a certain starter in the final. Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero will not be the least bit intimidated by Hojlund. 3
Manuel Ugarte
Chelsea scored within minutes of his arrival. 5
Alejandro Garnacho
So indolent for Cucurella's goal. 4
Ayden Heaven
Booked on first appearance in two months. 5
Kobbie Mainoo
Introduced alongside Heaven. 5
Picked a stronger side than many expected and United gave their best account in the league for a couple of months before they petered out. 6
