Manchester United sent shock Eberechi Eze transfer instruction amid £68m release clause

Paul Scholes has urged Manchester United to sign Eberechi Eze this summer after England's 3-1 defeat to Senegal on Tuesday evening.
The Manchester Evening News reported last year that United were monitoring Eze as a potential signing for this summer and he could leave Crystal Palace this summer despite winning the FA Cup with the Eagles this season. The midfielder has now caught the eye of United legend Scholes during his exploits while on international duty as Thomas Tuchel suffered his first defeat as England manager just days after a 1-0 win over Andorra.
The loss was met with frustration from fans at the City Ground, who booed the team as they left the pitch and headed down the tunnel. After being brought on in the second half against Andorra, Eze then featured the full 90 minutes in Nottingham and was instrumental in the build-up to Harry Kane’s early goal.
He was one of the only positives on Tuesday, catching Scholes' eye. Taking to Instagram stories, the Manchester United icon shared a picture of the Crystal Palace winger along with the caption: "Just buy him..."
But Scholes hasn't been the only former player to urge United to make a move for the Palace star. Speaking last month, Dwight Yorke said: "Eberechi Eze at Crystal Palace would be perfect for Manchester United.
"Yeah, he scored at the weekend in the FA Cup final, but it’s not just about that. A year ago, maybe more, I said this kid and Michael Olise – who went to Bayern – United should buy them for £100 million. Put £100m down and you will get two fantastic players.
"Instead, they listened to the figures in the hierarchy, which is understandable, but it’s glaring just how good these two are. Eze has the decision-making, the talent, he’s a good athlete, he can create and score. He’s at the right age to step up and play on a bigger platform. It’s a no-brainer."
Previously speaking about his future, the winger said: "I want to enjoy my football where I am right now. The things that I can control, that's it. I'm really, really invested in becoming the best player I can be.
"Whether that leads me to another club, or to whatever, I'm at peace with that - and I try to stay there (at peace) as well."
Eze is believed to have a release clause of £68m that can be reactivated this year. The Mirror has previously reported Eze's release clause will expire two weeks before the transfer window closes on September 1, so effectively in mid-August.
