Manchester United's Premier League debutants shed light on 'disappointing' Newcastle defeat
@Source: manchestereveningnews.co.uk
Manchester United duo Altay Bayindir and Harry Amass were in reflective moods after the making their full Premier League debuts in the heavy 4-1 loss to Newcastle. Bayindir has been used as the cup goalkeeper since arriving in 2023 but he was handed his first start in the Premier League after Andre Onana was dropped. The Cameroonian made two mistakes in the draw with Lyon on Thursday night and the decision was made by Ruben Amorim to allow the former Inter goalkeeper some time off. Meanwhile, Amass was given his first start in the Premier League to allow Patrick Dorgu an opportunity to rest. The 18-year-old played 21 minutes in the victory over Leicester City last month. Sadly for both men, it would turn out to be an afternoon to forget. Despite going into the break at 1-1, the Reds suffered in the second half and were eventually beaten 4-1 thanks to a Harvey Barnes brace and a Bruno Guimaraes strike which stemmed from a misplaced Bayindir pass. Taking to social media after the game, the duo reflected on the result with Amass beginning: "Disappointing result but happy to get my first start," accompanied with a red heart. Bayindir meanwhile held his hands up for the result and sent a rallying cry to the supporters. "Honoured to make my Premier League debut for this club," he wrote. "Not the result we wanted, but I’ll keep pushing, keep fighting. "We’ll be back stronger - keep believing." Among the 31,000+ to support Bayindir after the result was Onana who liked his Turkish teammate's comment. Amorim insisted pre-match that Onana would be available again for the Reds on Thursday night for the second leg of the Europa League tie against Lyon. That game is finely poised at 2-2 heading into the second leg at Old Trafford . Here at the Manchester Evening News, we’re dedicated to bringing you the best Manchester United coverage and analysis.
