Manoj Tiwary Says It’s Virat Kohli’s Year To Win IPL: 'Entire Universe Is...'

Former India batter Manoj Tiwary expects Virat Kohli and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to end their long wait for the maiden IPL title this season. Tiwary reckons Kohli deserves to lift the trophy more than anyone else, having broken many records over the last 17 years in the franchise competition. RCB, led by Rajat Patidar, have emerged as a dominant force in this IPL. They have already reached the playoffs, with two games remaining in the league stage. RCB will now look for a top-two finish to ensure a second chance of making it to the final. The path looks smoother after the Gujarat Titans’ recent defeat to the Lucknow Super Giants. According to Tiwary, RCB’s campaign this year seems quite similar to India’s World Cup victory in 2011. Back then, the entire nation wanted the Men in Blue to win the trophy, particularly for Sachin Tendulkar. Tiwary feels the sentiment is no different when it comes to Kohli and the IPL title. “With Gujarat Titans losing, RCB now have a very good chance to finish in the top two. It looks like the entire universe is working to help RCB end the trophy drought and win the IPL. Virat Kohli deserves this, so many years have gone by. RCB deserves the trophy. With GT losing against Lucknow Super Giants, RCB can finish in the top two. The entire RCB team deserves to win the trophy,” he told Cricbuzz. Kohli, who recently announced his retirement from Test cricket, remains the all-time leading run-scorer in the IPL with 8509 runs. He is also topping the scoring charts this season for RCB, having registered 505 runs in 11 appearances at an average of 63.13 and a strike rate of 143.46. “But no one deserves it more than Virat Kohli because when in 2011 the Indian team won the World Cup, we all were wishing for it because of Sachin Tendulkar. We all wanted India to win the World Cup because for so many years he served Indian cricket,” Tiwary said. “Similarly, in franchise cricket, the leading run-getters list has been dominated by Kohli; he has been going in every year. RCB needs to win the trophy for Virat Kohli. Push for him, he has been a great Indian captain as well. If RCB win this year, it will be a tribute to Virat Kohli,” he added. RCB will next face Sunrisers Hyderabad in the penultimate league fixture on Friday, May 23. Their last game against Lucknow Super Giants is scheduled for May 27.
