Marcellus boys lacrosse rides prolific offense to statement Class D win over LaFayette/Onondaga

Marcellus boys lacrosse has leaned on its high-powered offense all season.
It was more of the same against LaFayette/Onondaga on Tuesday.
The Mustangs found the back of the net with ease en route to a 20-9 victory in what could be a potential playoff preview.
“LaFayette/Onondaga is a good, dangerous team,” Marcellus coach Pat Donahue said. “Anytime that we’re able to come out on top against them is a positive.”
The squads sit near the top of the Class D standings, both within one game of first place.
The Lancers had no answers for the Mustangs’ duo of Chris Doshna II and Nick Rayfield. The juniors cashed in for multiple scores early on and did not slow down from there. They finished with a combined nine goals and three assists.
“They had some nice plays,” Donahue said. “It was a good shooting performance overall.”
Donahue also credited Marcellus’s offensive success to its dominance in the faceoff X. Jack Lutwin and Connor Ciota combined to win over 60% of their draws.
Marcellus’s attack has been the driving force of the team throughout the season. The Mustangs have the most goals scored in Section III with 208, good for 16 per game.
LaFayette/Onondaga was led by hat tricks from Brycin Jones and Gaho Shenendoah.
The Lancers have now dropped two straight games. Marcellus, meanwhile, has won three straight following their two-game skid midway through the campaign.
Marcellus has just two games left on their schedule before the postseason. The Mustangs have won back-to-back Class D sectional titles.
“We talk about being able to come on strong down the stretch,” Donahue said. “This time of the year is when we want to be playing at our peak.”
Marcellus (10-3) has a tough matchup ahead against Christian Brothers Academy on Friday.
“Having a little momentum going into sectionals is always something that we want to be doing,” Donahue said.
LaFayette/Onondaga (9-3) hits the road to take on Cazenovia on Wednesday.
