Martin Boyle should get new Hibs deal on ONE condition as Aussie star nears Easter Road end game

Tam McManus reckons Hibernian should consider handing Martin Boyle a new contract - but only if the pacey forward is willing to take a wage cut. The 31-year-old returned to Easter Road for his second spell with the club in the summer of 2022 after a brief six-month stint with Al-Faisaly in the Saudi Pro League. Boyle is on course to enjoy his best goal scoring season for the Hibees, having registered just 14 goals and nine assists in 36 games in all competitions, just one goal shy of his tally from last season. The ex Montrose and Dundee star has often been used in a strike partnership with the likes of Kieron Bowie, Mykola Kukhareych and Dwight Gayle during the campaign, with David Gray's side currently occupying third spot in the Premiership with three games to go until the league split. The Australia international is one of six first team players out of contract in Leith in the summer, with Rocky Bushiri, Lewis Miller, Junior Hoilett, Dwight Gayle and Max Boruc making up the rest of the list. Hibs have an option to extend his contract by an additional year but former Easter Road favourite and current Record Sport columnist McManus believes the forward may have to lower his demands to land a new deal, despite his impressive form. Asked on PLZ Soccer , whether Boyle should be kept on, he said: "Yes, but maybe not on the same terms he is on. "I believe he is one of the highest earners at the club. Obviously he went to Saudi and came back and I believe he's on good money. "I think he had a poor start to the season and by his own admission he would admit that. "But certainly in the last couple of months he has looked like the Martin Boyle of old. "He looks more mobile and has got his yard of pace back and is scoring and creating goals. "I think that if the deal is right for everyone, then you would give him another year. "But Martin is coming to the time of his career where he maybe fancies something different. "He is obviously an Australia international and there has been a lot of rumours about him maybe going over there to play. "If Hibs can keep him it will be good but I think it will be down to Martin if he wants to stay or if he sees something else.
