Masters Practice Round Suspended, Evacuated Fans Get Short End of the Stick

The 2025 Masters Tournament is officially underway — well, kind of.Normally, this week is full of the vibrant colors of the azaleas and beautiful scenes around Augusta National, but Monday is a bit dreary with thunderstorms.Due to the weather, Augusta National suspended Monday's practice round and evacuated the grounds at 11:25 a.m. ET, and an update will be provided once they are available, per an announcement from tournament officials.This was the second announcement concerning the weather.On Sunday evening, the Augusta National Golf Club announced that the gates would not open as scheduled for Monday. At 8 a.m., the tournament opened the gates and provided an update."The ground will remain open this morning as the weather permits," The Masters social media team posted.Well, patrons and players got about three and a half hours on the grounds before more weather halted things. As much as the players wish to get some work in on the course, it is the fans who got the short end of the stick."Tickets are valid only for the date indicated on face of the Ticket. Augusta National, Inc. (ANI) reserves the right to suspend the Tournament or close the golf course because of adverse weather conditions or for other safety reasons. In such situations, no refunds, rain checks, exchanges or replacements will be made," Golfweek reported.The weather looks wet for the rest of the day. Through 5 p.m. ET, there is a 90% chance of rain and storms. At 6 p.m., that percentage goes down to 70%; at 8 p.m., there is a 60% chance.Winds will also be blowing 10-15 mph at the course, and the area could see wind gusts up to 20-25 mph.It is unclear if there will be any more golf on Monday, but the good news is that the weather looks much better for the rest of the week.Masters Week Weather to ImproveTuesday and Wednesday's weather looks to be mostly sunny with a breeze. The high is 68, and the low is in the 40s. It will be cooler in the morning, but by the afternoon, it should be a typical spring day in Augusta. The Par-3 contest should be able to happen without any expected weather issues.The high for the first round of the tournament will be 76, and the low will be 46. Thursday's weather will be partly cloudy, with 7-14 mph winds.Friday will have a high of 71 and a low of 53. It will be partly cloudy, and there is a 40 percent chance of rain right now. If there is a stoppage in play, it might be this day.Saturday has just a 20 percent chance of rain in the afternoon and a high of 67, so the temperature will drop for Round 3 of The Masters.Sunday at The Masters will likely be perfect.
