Matt Fitzpatrick Parting Ways with Caddie After Mess at PLAYERS Championship
@Source: newsweek.com
Matt Fitzpatrick missed the cut by three shots after carding scores of 78 and 72 in the first two rounds of The PLAYERS Championship. The Englishman seems to have taken the news badly and has already shown the first signals of it by ending his relationship with his caddie, Billy Foster.Foster himself broke the news on his Instagram account, which has more than 29,000 followers. Although the veteran Loopman did not specifically say he was fired, he did point out that when results are not forthcoming, the caddie or coach usually bears the responsibility."Well after 6 great years, all good things come to an end," Foster posted on Instagram. "This game never stops to frustrate you & infuriate you....!!! Unfortunately times change & ultimately it's the caddie or the coach that has to accept results are not good enough & when you stop enjoying what you are doing it's time for a change.""Thanks Matt we had a great run & who knows where the next chapter will go. Onwards & Upwards."Matt Fitzpatrick and Billy Foster started working together in 2018. Since then, the player has achieved most of his professional successes, including winning the 2022 US Open. He also reached his highest world ranking (6th, April 2023).These are Fitzpatrick's victories with Foster taking care of his bag: 2018 Omega European Masters (DP World Tour) 2020 DP World Tour Championship (DP World Tour) 2021 Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters (DP World Tour) 2022 U.S. Open (major championship) 2023 RBC Heritage (PGA Tour) 2023 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship (DP World Tour) However, the 30-year-old's results have slipped since last season. In 2024, he had just three top 10s in 21 tournaments (17 cuts made), while in 2025, he is still looking for his first top 20 in six events.Billy Foster has had a legendary career that has included taking care of the bags of Seve Ballesteros, Tiger Woods, Sergio Garcia, Thomas Bjorn, Darren Clarke and Lee Westwood. His service record also includes several Ryder Cup appearances with his players, although he has only won one major, with Matt Fitzpatrick.In early 2025, Billy Foster announced that he would be cutting back on his schedule and sharing his duties with another caddie. However, a Golf Digest report says that Foster had planned to work the current Florida swing and the rest of Fitzpatrick's tournaments through the end of the PGA Tour regular season.More Golf: PXG's Jake Knapp Passing Golf's 'True Test' at The PLAYERS Championship
