Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has claimed Liam Lawson’s situation should not be compared to that of Sergio Perez. Lawson’s recent demotion from Red Bull to Racing Bulls has sparked several debates among fans and experts. Many claim Perez had suffered a similar end to his stint with the Milton Keynes squad after the 2024 season. When asked if Lawson’s struggles put Perez’s poor performance last year in a new context, Verstappen claimed the two situations were different.“I don’t care what anyone else thinks. ‘Poor Checo [Sergio Perez] or poor this poor that’. At the end of the day we got ourselves into this situation so just need to work on it,” he told multiple media outlets.
Max Verstappen later added that it just underlined the issues with Red Bull’s RB21.“Maybe we can now see how difficult it is to drive that car,” he said. The four-time world champion noticed that Red Bull must now move on and set their focus on bettering the car to improve their results.”I don’t think you need to have a look at anyone, to be honest. What has been done has been done. I think it’s more important that we take a good look at ourselves and just keep on working and keep on improving the car,” he concluded.
Liam Lawson failed to finish his race in Melbourne before securing 12th place in the Chinese Grand Prix. His poor displays across both racing weekends saw him finish his two-event stint without a single point. Max Verstappen, on the other side, secured all of RedBull’s36 points in the Constructors’ standings this season.
Seeing the poor result,s Red Bull opted to bring in Yuki Tsunoda to team up alongside Max Verstappen, while sending Liam Lawson back to Racing Bulls. The Dutch-Belgian motorsports racer was not too happy about the early-season driver swap. Speaking about the sudden change, Verstappen claimed he had already shared his reaction to the team.”My reaction was shared with the team, but in general, you know, about not only the swap but about everything, “Verstappen said.”We discussed that already during last weekend, race weekend, back at the factory,” he added.
Max Verstappen recently stole pole position for the Japanese Grand Prix from McLaren’s Lando Norris. A remarkable lap of the Suzuka circuit saw him finish first on Saturday. The four-time champion pipped Norris to the top spot by 0.012 seconds after a last-gasp effort.
