The relationship between soccer superstars Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr. at Real Madrid is 'not as good as it seems’ according to Cadena SER journalist Anton Mena, who made his claims on Spanish radio.
Mbappe joined Los Blancos from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer last summer, and had to adapt to a central number 9 role because of Ballon d’Or runner up Vinicius occupying his preferred left wing berth.
Despite initial teething problems and “hitting rock bottom” after a penalty miss at Athletic Club in Bilbao, as he later admitted, Mbappe has found his feet and learned how to work alongside Vinicius.
Though the pair were criticized for not delivering “minimum services” against Atletico Madrid in a Champions League last 16 tie last week, won 2-1 thanks to goals from Rodrygo and Brahim Diaz, they both got on the scoresheet during a La Liga victory by the same margin over Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.
“Goals are an important thing. Until the 70th minute, both he [Mbappe] and Vinicius did very well, creating many chances," manager Carlo Ancelotti said, as part of a press conference where he also had to field questions about the Bernabeu whistling his team.
"But when I think it’s time to defend, I take off the forwards. This doesn’t pose any problems for me. Just like I took off Rodrygo, because this will be good for him,” the Italian added.

Yet while things looked up for Vinicius and Mbappe, Mena claimed that the relationship between them “is not as good as it seems”.
“They want to sell us a brotherhood that does not exist. From what I see that hurts Madrid’s game. The two do not look for each other and do not find each other,” Mena further explained.
These comments follow on from those made by former Madrid boss Fabio Capello, who said that the two undoubtedly talented front men “stand on each other’s toes” and get in one another’s way.
Even if that were so, they are both guaranteed to the start at the Metropolitano on Wednesday for a deciding clash against Atelti which will determine who goes through to the UCL quarterfinals.
