Real Madrid sunk Borussia Dortmund 3-2 during a FIFA Club World Cup quarterfinal thriller on Saturday night. The highlight of the match was Kylian Mbappé's spectacular bicycle kick in second-half stoppage time. In a thrilling contest, Dortmund came close to equalizing, with Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois using his fingertips to palm away a potential equalizer for the German club in front of 76,611 spectators at the MetLife Stadium - the site of next year’s World Cup final. There was a moment of silence before kickoff for Liverpool’s Diogo Jota and his brother, Penafiel’s André Silva, who died in a car crash on Thursday. Real Madrid took a 2-0 lead in the first 20 minutes, with Gonzalo García and Fran García scoring for them. Dortmund’s Maximilian Beier scored three minutes into stoppage time, and Mbappé - who came off the bench in the 67th minute to replace Jude Bellingham - scored to restore Real's two-goal lead with his bicycle kick one minute later. Eight minutes later, Serhou Guirassy scored from a spot-kick in added time after he was fouled by Dean Huijsen inside the penalty box. Huijsen received a red card and will miss the semifinals. Just before the final whistle, Courtois used his height to tip away Marcel Sabitzer’s shot, denying Dortmund a chance to equalize. This was Real Madrid's fifth consecutive match against Dortmund and they remain unbeaten in seven meetings since a 2014 Champions League quarterfinal defeat. Real Madrid will face Paris Saint-Germain in the semifinals on Wednesday, a day after Chelsea meets Brazilian club Fluminense.
