As new details in the Meerut murder case continue to be uncovered, a report has suggested that Sahil Shukla, Muskan Rastogi’s lover, used to gamble on her husband Saurabh Rajput’s money. Quoting sources in the police department, the Hindustan Times reported that Sahil used to bet on cricket matches using the victim’s money, and used the winnings to fund a lavish lifestyle for himself and Muskan. Sahil placed his bets through bookies, the identities of whom are currently under investigation, the report quoted sources as saying. Further, the money he won was used to fund his trips to Rishikesh and Dehradun with Muskan. The report also quoted Sahil’s neighbours as claiming that he had no regular job and hence no fixed source of income, and that he heavily relied on gambling earnings to sustain. Quoting police sources, the report claimed that Saurabh used to send nearly Rs 1 lakh to Muskan every month to manage her and their daughter’s expenses. Subsequently, she would inform Sahil about the same, who then used to place bets using the money. Sahil and Muskan were arrested after the woman admitted to killing her husband Saurabh – a Merchant Navy officer, and chopping his body into 15 pieces. Her parents took her to the police station where she confessed to more gory activities with her accomplice and her lover Sahil. SAHIL AND MUSKAN EXPERIENCE WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS IN JAIL In the latest, Sahil and Muskan are having a hard time adjusting to life in jail, with prison officials claiming that the duo were experiencing drug withdrawal symptoms, according to news agency PTI. Muskan Rastogi and her lover Sahil Shukla have been lodged in Chaudhary Charan Singh district jail since March 19 after a court sent the duo to judicial custody for 14 days. The duo wanted to be lodged in the same barrack but they were told that as per rules, it was not possible. Muskan has also asked for a government lawyer as her family is upset with her. They are also refusing to eat and drink,” PTI quoted a source as saying. While some speculate that this might be due to remorse, jail officials attribute it to drug withdrawal.
