Melania Trump Postpones White House Garden Tours Due to Anticipated Protests in Washington
@Source: people.com
With anti-Trump protests anticipated on Saturday in Washington, D.C., Melania Trump and the White House postponed the spring garden tours.
An announcement from the Office of the First Lady sent out on Thursday, April 3, advised that the spring garden tours scheduled for Saturday, April 5, have been pushed to Sunday, April 6.
The tours, which are free to the public, offer guests the opportunity to visit the South Lawn of the White House, the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden, the Rose Garden and the White House Kitchen Garden. Dates were first announced in March.
The event's rescheduling comes amid news of "Hands Off!" rallies scheduled to take place across the U.S. on Saturday, including at the Washington Monument on the National Mall.
Organizers describe the movement as a "nationwide mobilization to stop the most brazen power grab in modern history."
"This is the moment where we say NO. No more looting, no more stealing, no more billionaires raiding our government while working people struggle to survive," the event's website states.
The website notes that "thousands of people" are expected to "demand an end to this billionaire power grab," by marching and rallying at "state capitals, federal buildings, congressional offices, and city centers—anywhere we can make sure they hear us."
"This decision has been made out of an abundance of caution and to ensure the safety of all within proximity to public demonstrations planned near the White House," the First Lady's announcement read.
According to the announcement, all previously allocated tickets for April 5 will be honored on Sunday, April 6, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., regardless of the original Saturday time slot printed on the ticket. Ticket holders for April 6 should plan to continue using the time slot noted on their ticket.
While D.C. braces for the protests, President Donald Trump traveled to Florida on Thursday, April 3 and attended a dinner for the Saudi Arabia-funded LIV Golf tour.
