Michael Vaughan Hails India's CT 2025 Win, Says Even B-Team Could've Reached Final

Retired English cricketer Michael Vaughan has labeled India the ‘best team’ in white-ball cricket. The Men in Blue secured a record third ICC Champions Trophy crown on Sunday, March 9, defeating a Mitchell Santner-led New Zealand side by four wickets in Dubai.
India’s dominant show at the white-ball event has earned them praise from several ex-cricketers and experts. Vaughan was also seemingly impressed by India’s display in the tournament’s final. Sharing his thoughts on India’s victory on X (formerly Twitter), Vaughan said, “Let’s be honest India is the best team in the world in white ball cricket by a decent margin.”
Vaughan added that India deserved to win the Champions Trophy 2025. The retired cricketer hoped that the other teams would have to try and catch up with India’s level.
“Throughly deserved to win…T20 holders/Champions trophy holders…Now down to rest to try and catch up,” he wrote.
This reaction comes days after Vaughan’s potshot at Rohit Sharma and company last week. Ahead of the final, the former England skipper claimed the Men in Blue would win the Champions Trophy at their ‘new’ home ground. “India will win at their new home venue,” he wrote in a now-deleted reply to a fan on X, as per multiple outlets.
In another post, Vaughan also discussed India’s depth in their white-ball squad. He named a few more stars while claiming the Rohit Sharma-led side could have made the final with a completely different lineup. “[Yashasvi] Jaiswal, [Tilak] Varma, [Abhishek] Sharma, Sky, [Rishabh] Pant, [Nitish Kumar] Reddy, [Washington] Sundar, [Yuzvendra] Chahal, Arsdeep [Singh], [Jasprit] Bumrah & [Ravi] Bisnoi…This team would have made it to the final as well IMO,” he wrote in another post on X.
The high-octane final saw India lose the toss again and field first. Rohit also equaled Brian Lara’s record of losing the toss in 14 consecutive ODI matches. The Black Caps enjoyed a solid start as they remained unbeaten for 57 runs.
The Indian spin-bowling duo of Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav shifted the game’s momentum entirely by running through the Kiwi side’s top order. In the second innings, Rohit led India’s chase with a 76-run knock. He was awarded the Player of the Match for his spoils as India won the event at the Dubai International Stadium.
