Michigan State is losing another returning EDGE player to the portal.
James Schott, a redshirt junior rush end, announced Wednesday via social media he’s transferring out to use his final two seasons of eligibility. He’s the second at the position to hit the portal during the spring window after Anthony Jones did last week.
Schott, 6-foot-4 and 243 pounds, had five tackles in 19 games over the last two seasons. The former three-star recruit from Indiana didn’t play as a true freshman in 2022.
Since the spring portal window opened last week, Michigan State has lost five scholarship players to it in Schott, Jones, defensive back Dillon Tatum and receivers Jaylan Brown and Austin Clay. Defensive back Caleb Coley entered the portal as a graduate transfer on April 1 while more than a half-dozen walk-ons have gone in during the window that closes on Friday.
The Spartans are coming off a 5-7 finish in coach Jonathan Smith’s first season and wrapped up spring practice on Saturday.
