An amateur Welsh rugby club coach has become a social media star after a video filmed on the team's bus journey home from a pre-season game exploded online. The moment occurred as Aberavon Quins made their way home from their first pre-season game against Senghenydd. The team bus made its way through Caerphilly , before encountering a road sweeper vehicle barely moving in the road which had brought traffic to a halt on their side. With a constant stream of cars coming on the other side, there was simply no way to pass as a large traffic jam began to form. Step forward club coach Paddy O'Callaghan to solve the problem and leave his fellow club members in stitches. Paddy proceeded to get off the bus and jog down the carriageway, moving ahead of the road sweeper vehicle and another car before ordering the traffic coming the other way to stop. He then waved through the cheering bus and other grateful drivers before being picked up by the coach and welcomed with chants of his name. The footage was posted online by the club and has since been re-posted by LadBible, receiving over nine million views on Instagram, and a further 400,000 on TikTok. Quins' own clip has amassed a huge 13.6 million views, taking the total to a colossal 23 million views. Viewers have been lapping up the hilarious footage. "I would love to be on that bus! They look like they know how to have fun," remarked one. "Would have been great if the cleaner then overtook while he was getting back on the bus," joked another. "Not all heroes wear capes, some wear shorts and direct traffic," joked one. O'Callaghan is ax ex-coach at Quins and now assists with the senior team. Their pre-season match against Senghenydd was a 41-19 victory to get ready for the upcoming campaign. Writing on Instagram, Quins said: "A fantastic game of rugby from both teams to get preseason started!! Big tackles, quick ball movement, and plenty of grit on display — exactly what rugby’s all about. "Huge respect to our opponents Senghenydd RFC for pushing us all the way, and to the boys for leaving it all out there on the pitch." Quins compete in League Two West Central, and placed fourth in the 2024/2025 season. They picked up nine wins and lost eight in the previous campaign, 31 points adrift of league leaders Heol Y Cyw. Next season they'll be chasing promotion. Also competing in their league is Gavin Henson's Pencoed RFC, close rivals of champions Heol Y Cyw, who finished in seventh place after seven wins and nine losses last season.
