A Miss Scotland has been convicted after biting two security guards and racially abusing one of them during a drunken outburst at a rugby event last year. Lucy Thomson, 26, who had been crowned Miss Scotland just 11 months earlier, lashed out at two MK Security staff members while being thrown out of the Edinburgh City 7s rugby competition in June 2023. Thomson, from Crossford, Fife, became the centre of a public scandal after she bit security guard Andrew Okpaje and used racist language towards him, all while shouting 'Do you know who I am?' and bragging about her wealth. She also bit a second security officer as the chaos unfolded. Footage of the incident, which showed Thomson and her sister being ejected from the event, quickly went viral on social media. In court, Mr Okpaje, 26, explained that he had been called to deal with an intoxicated woman around 7pm. As he attempted to escort Thomson and her sister off the premises, she began fighting back aggressively. He said: 'As we got closer to the exit I was assaulted. We were holding her and trying to be as gentle as possible and as I had my arm up she went to bite it. It left a mark on my hand. 'I looked at her in shock and then she proceed to call me the 'n' word. She looked directly at me and with confidence she said 'f*** you then, you f***ing n*****'.' He added: 'I hadn't heard the word said to me in a while. It was quite a shock when it happened. It was pretty horrible.' He described the encounter as 'shocking' and 'horrible,' adding that it was the first time he had heard such language in years. Thomson denied the charges, claiming she had only consumed two and a half ciders and was acting in self-defence after seeing her sister allegedly 'cornered' by security staff. She also insisted that she had been invited to the event as an ambassador and had promoted the tournament on her social media. However, Sheriff Derek O'Carroll dismissed Thomson's version of events as 'utterly implausible' after a two-day trial. He convicted her of assaulting both guards and using racial abuse against Mr Okpaje. Following her conviction, Thomson was fined £790 and was stripped of her Miss Scotland title, with pageant organisers confirming she had been 'dethroned' after the scandal.
