Major League Soccer player Emmanuel Sabbi has scored — a wife! The Vancouver Whitecaps winger, 27, married Jonathlyn Agyemang in a "traditional" Ghanaian celebration attended by 150 guests on Thursday, June 12, followed by a larger "elegant" wedding attended by 225 guests on Friday, June 13, at Knotting Hill Place in Little Elm, Texas. "It’s our dream come true — a beautiful blend of cultures, faith, and love, wrapped in joy and celebration," Agyemang tells PEOPLE. To honor their Ghanaian descent, the couple kicked off their nuptials with a ceremony "rich with Ghanaian customs, attire and blessings from [their] families." Guests were served one of West Africa's most popular dishes, jollof rice. "We envisioned a two-day celebration that honors both our heritage and our love story — a beautiful traditional ceremony followed by a heartfelt wedding and joyful reception surrounded by those we love most," the bride says. The wedding the next day had a white and gold theme with "a very classic and timeless fairytale mansion aesthetic." As “I Believe in You and Me” by Whitney Houston played, Agyemang walked down the aisle wearing a "classic" ballgown with a basque waist and sweetheart neckline. The Edward Jones financial advisor would later change into a "dazzling" off-the-shoulder, form-fitting couture dress with hand-beaded detailing and fringe crystal sleeves. "I admire the loving, nurturing person my beautiful bride is and all she does for us and just love spending time with her!" Sabbi tells PEOPLE. "I love how she looks to help everyone before herself. She is simply just amazing, a true blessing from God." Sabbi not only exchanged handwritten vows with Agyemang, but he also did a "unity ceremony" with her involving "the tying with cords" to symbolize their lives coming together. The couple explains that this is representative of Ecclesiastes 4:12. This Bible verse emphasizes the strength of partnership, citing how a three-strand cord is not easily broken. "This is special to us because we believe strongly in our union being rooted in faith," Agyemang explains. The ceremony was officiated by Pastor Joel Solomon, who has had a "meaningful spiritual presence" in the pair's lives. "Getting married, to us, means embracing a life of commitment, love, and partnership," Agyemang says. "It’s the sacred bond of doing life hand-in-hand, through all seasons and walks of life." The party continued into the reception, where the couple danced to MAJOR's "Why I love You." The duo and their guests — among whom was musician Tayron Kwidan’s — were then served plated dishes of American cuisine and slices of wedding cake. The delicious four-tiered cake had tuxedo, red velvet and vanilla flavoring. "Good music, great food and moments that reflect our faith and culture were all non-negotiable," Agyemang says. The couple met when they were teenagers and reconnected at the end of 2023. They quickly fell in love and got engaged in a seaside proposal at La Torre Cerniola in Italy on October 11, 2024. After their honeymoon in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, Agyemang can't wait to "do life" with her "thoughtful and caring" husband. "His love makes me feel safe, and his presence feels like home," she shares. "From the everyday moments to the big milestones, we can’t wait to build our life as a team," she continues. "The next chapter is all about growing in love, faith, and purpose. We’re looking forward to building a home rooted in faith, peace, love, joy, and intentionality — together."
