The sudden death of Om Prakash, former Director General of Police (DGP) of Karnataka, has sent shockwaves across the state. The 1981-batch IPS officer was found dead under suspicious circumstances at his residence in Bengaluru’s upscale HSR Layout on April 20. According to a police complaint filed by his son, Kartikesh, the former top cop had been entangled in domestic tensions involving his wife and daughter, both of whom he claims were struggling with mental health issues.
'Strongly Suspect Sister, Mother's Role In Murder': Ex-Karnataka DGP's Son
In his formal complaint to the police, Kartikesh said, “My mother and sister were battling mental health issues and often got into heated arguments with my father”, reported The Mint. He went on to allege that his mother, Pallavi, had been threatening to kill Om Prakash in the days leading up to the incident, prompting the former DGP to briefly stay with his sister for safety.
The son further claimed that two days before the incident, his sister Kriti persuaded their father to return home despite his reluctance. On Sunday evening, while Kartikesh was at the Karnataka Golf Association in Domlur, a neighbour alerted him that something was wrong at their house.
Upon rushing back, he reportedly found his father lying in a pool of blood with visible injuries and broken objects, including a bottle and a knife, nearby. Om Prakash was taken to St John's Hospital, where he was declared dead.
Based on Kartikesh’s allegations, both Pallavi and Kriti are under scrutiny. Authorities are investigating possible motives, including a long-standing property dispute in Dandeli, which reportedly contributed to rising tensions within the family.
"My mother Pallavi and my sister Kriti used to fight with my father often. I strongly suspect that they are involved in the murder of my father. I request you to initiate legal action in this case," he said, as per a report on PTI.
It is also revealed that Pallavi had previously attempted to file a police complaint, staging a protest outside the HSR Layout police station after being turned away. She is reportedly undergoing treatment for schizophrenia.
Om Prakash was cremated with full state honours in Bengaluru on Monday, with his son performing the final rites following a post-mortem examination.
