A family of 22 has been left homeless and devastated after an early Monday morning fire destroyed their home in Tovata, Makoi, Nasinu.
Property owner Ananaiasa Nodrakoro claims the fire started from the electrical meter box.
It spread rapidly and engulfed the entire structure within minutes, leaving nothing but ashes and twisted metal in its wake.
“We didn’t even have time to save anything,” Mr Nodrakoro said.
“All we could do was get everyone out safely. Everything else clothes, documents, our food – they are all gone.”
Neighbours reported seeing heavy smoke rising from the home and hearing cries for help as the family scrambled to escape the flames.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the emotional toll has been severe, especially for the children, many of whom are now staying with relatives and friends.
The Nodrakoro extended family, which includes multiple generations under one roof, is now seeking temporary shelter and assistance.
Community members and local charities have begun organising support, but the family says they are in urgent need of food, clothing, and basic supplies.
“We are grateful to be alive, but we don’t know what comes next. We’re just taking it one day at a time.”
The National Fire Authority (NFA) is conducting an investigation.
