MrBeast responded to backlash over a photo of his that went viral online. The YouTuber, whose real name is James Donaldson, participated in the Sidemen's charity soccer game over the weekend at London's Wembley Stadium. More than 90,000 tickets were sold for the annual event, which raised over £4.7 million—or approximately $6 million—for Brightside, BBC Children In Need and M7 Education. The Sidemen, a YouTube group whose Netflix documentary The Sidemen Story was released in 2024, went up against the YouTube AllStars and lost in a penalty shootout following a 9-9 draw. While the Sidemen's team consisted of players including KSI, Miniminter, Joshua Zerkaa, TBJZL, Behzinga and Vikkstar123, the YouTube AllStars boasted players like Sketch, Kai Cenat, iShowSpeed, Theo Baker, CarryMinati, Donaldson and more.On Saturday, Donaldson took to X, formerly Twitter, to share a viral photo of the game's players ahead of the match."Your favorite creator is in this photo," the internet sensation wrote. "Not to be that guy but.. lol," he captioned it.The screenshot showed a @DramaAlert post dating back to 2023, which read, "YouTuber MrBeast donated 20,000 shoes to kids in Africa in latest video." @ReviewsPossum allegedly then commented on that message at the time with, "How dare MrBeast exploit these kids for clout by giving them free shoes. I'm a smart boy."Newsweek reached out to Donaldson's representative via email for comment. The exchange comes following criticism over Donaldson's comments comparing himself to a "zoo animal" on a recent podcast."It's very easy in moments like that to go, f***, I'm like a zoo animal. I don't have free will. I'm like a little robot to my businesses," the 26-year-old said on The Diary Of A CEO podcast, which was released on February 20. "And so you have to, like, be very careful. And sometimes those emotions take over, especially because I'm a very defiant guy."On Reddit, user Troepzooibende wrote in a comment with 2,800 upvotes: "He has 80 million [dollars], if he doesn't like working then, just... stop.""Rich people love to complain about how hard their lives are.. they're so disconnected [from] reality," ellsego added in a message with 1,200 upvotes.According to Forbes, Donaldson's net worth was estimated to be $500 million in 2022. Donaldson initially started posting gaming videos on YouTube in 2012 and went viral in 2017 for posting a nearly 24-hour-long clip of himself counting to 100,000. Today, he has over 372 million subscribers on the platform and has posted 852 videos. His impact goes beyond video making too and includes brands like MrBeast Burger, Lunchly and Feastables.
