MS Dhoni voices concerns over declining fitness level among India’s youth

At 44 MS Dhoni continues to defy age impressing fans with his unmatched fitness and razor-sharp reflexes. The former India captain who retired from international cricket in 2020 remains a vital force in the IPL with his swift stumpings and finishing prowess proving age was just a number. But beyond the field Dhoni is voicing concerns about a growing problem ndash declining fitness levels among Indiarsquos youth.
ldquoPhysical Activity Is Declining Among Childrenrdquo
Speaking at an event in Ranchi Dhoni shared his worries about the sedentary lifestyle increasingly common among children. ldquoNowadays that age is coming down ndash the amount of physical activity is coming down. So the average fitness level of Indians has gone down. Even my daughter I feel she doesnrsquot do a lot of physical activity. She is not into sports so we have to plan things where you are physically active. Thatrsquos how it has been. A lot of people donrsquot play sportrdquo he said candidly.

Dhoni who began his international career in 2004 and led India to three ICC trophies has long been admired for his disciplined fitness regime. Whether it was sprinting between wickets or executing lightning-fast stumpings his physical conditioning set him apart and became a hallmark of his career.

Even today as the oldest player in the IPL Dhoni continues to inspire. In a 2025 IPL clash against LSG he smashed 26 runs off 11 balls steering CSK to a thrilling win and earning the Player of the Match award ndash becoming the oldest player to receive the honour.
