I was a college student in Ellensburg Washington ready to party. They shut the campus down and the town was pretty much closed. Sat in my dorm room and watched ash blow around. They I went home and hung out with my mom ad dad. Yay! (0) Funniest 3 hours ago Your dad was an advertising executive? Cool! We are in Canada, about 260 miles from Mt St Helens. Wow that's quite an airburst. RolandTGunner (1) Funniest I remember driving to Seattle around August of '80. Came in from the east through Spokane. The ash on the ground started almost at the border. As we progressed west for miles and miles the wheat fields were completely grey with ash. A few months later I went down I-5 to California. The Toutle river was just a solid mass of ash and logs. Around 2000 I went down to the mountain. It was almost impossible to tell there had been an eruption until we got to the A frame and you realized the road bed and everything else was on top of six feet of ash. bluorangefyre (0) Funniest I'll get off your lawn, subby. ace in your face (0) Funniest less than a minute ago My mom was living in the mountains at the time, near Lake Rimrock, and suddenly the dogs (who had been running around outdoors) started screeching and whining at the door because there was hot sand raining down on them. She let them in and they were stuck for several days because of the ash.
