@Source: news18.com
Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur will host the final of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025. The 13th edition of the women’s 50-over megaevent is set to take place from September 29 to October 26 in India this year, and according to a report in ESPNCricinfo on Tuesday (March 25), the new stadium in Mullanpur will host the summit clash on October 26. Vishakhapatnam, Thiruvananthapuram, Raipur and Indore are the other venues. Apart from Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam, none of the five proposed venues have hosted a women’s international match yet. Indore had hosted two Women’s World Cup games in the past that were played at the Nehru Stadium, which no longer hosts international cricket. Seven-time champions Australia, four-time winners England, 2024 T20 World Cup winners New Zealand, South Africa and current Asia Cup winners Sri Lanka along with hosts India have already qualified for the competition, and the last two spots will be decided through the Women’s World Cup Qualifiers that will be played from April 9 in Lahore. If Pakistan qualify for the World Cup 2025, then matches of Women in Green will either take place in the UAE or Sri Lanka. India last hosted the Women’s ODI World Cup in 2013. Before that, the 1978 and 1997 editions of the women’s 50-over megaevent were also played in India. The Women’s in Blue have never won an ODI World Cup title so far. India’s best performance in the Women’s ODI World Cup was a runner-up finish in the 2005 and 2017 editions. In the 2022 edition of the Women’s ODI World Cup, which was played in New Zealand, India finished fifth in the league table and failed to qualify for the final.
