Multiple grassfires around Kamloops are unsolved according to KFR, but police are investigating (Kamloops)

Kamloops Mounties say they are investigating after a half-dozen grass fires were sparked in the past two weeks, all of which remain unsolved.
RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dana Napier told Castanet Kamloops via email that the fires are “under ongoing investigation” and that police are not in a position to release specific details right now.
Napier said it's not always easy to determine intent when a fire is believed to have been human caused.
On June 26, at about 5:30 p.m., a 3.5 hectare grassfire started in the Peterson Creek area in the hills west of Glenfair Drive and the Xget’tem Trail. Two days later on June 28, a grassfire sparked in Strathcona Park at about 3:30 p.m.
A week later, on July 6, a grassfire broke out in Rose Hill and three more occurred on July 8 — another in Strathcona Park at 4 p.m. police have confirmed as a suspected arson, another on a property in the 400-block of McGill Road at 6:05 p.m. and a third burning along the river bank near the Trans-Canada Highway and Kokanee Way in Dallas at about 8:30 p.m.
Kamloops Mounties have disclosed that the second Strathcona Park fire is believed to have been arson after a person was reportedly seen fleeing the area, and Napier has said police are looking into whether that fire has any link to the other downtown fires of late.
“We will continue to work with KFR to establish the cause of the fire, and if it is related to any other fires in the downtown area which is all part of the ongoing investigation," she said.
“To date police have not been able to identify a link between any of the fires. We will continue to work with our fire investigative partners from Kamloops Fire Rescue and wildfire services as part of our investigations to help with determining the cause.”
Assistant Fire Chief Ryan Cail told Castanet Kamloops KFR has no causes or areas of origin have been noted for the six grassfires.
Cail said the Dallas fire grew to the size of a soccer field before firefighters extinguished it and a KFR crew stayed on site overnight due to windy conditions to ensure it did not flare up and spread again.
He said fire investigators are working to determine the cause and origin of that fire.
“But nothing as of yet,” Cail said, adding it’s not considered suspicious at this time.
He said the McGill landscape fire was 25 square feet located at the back of a property that firefighters knocked down quickly. Police were called in for that fire, too.
“No real damage to anything significant or critical infrastructure,” Cail said.
