Mother-of-three Eka Vonuwa, who is currently on attachment as a volunteer at the Ministry of Youth and Sports at the Naleba Training Centre in Labasa, is hopeful of securing a job soon.
The attachment has helped her gain experience in office administration and customer service.
Ms Vonuwa was initially a volunteer at Volivoli Primary School in Cakaudrove, working as a trainee office administrator.
She records trainees’ enrolment forms, assists staff with collecting invoices, delivers Local Purchase Orders (LPOs), and helps collate correspondence from youths.
While at the NTC, she also participated in a three-day training organised by the ministry on livestock management, organic farming, and nursery practices.
Residing in Mataniwai Village, Macuata, Eka Vonuwa dreams of one day securing a permanent position in clerical or office administration.
“I’ve tried my luck, and just last week, I attended a job test for a clerical officer position at the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources in Labasa,” Ms. Vonuwa said.
Originally from Mataniwai, Macuata, she added, “Life is hard, and getting a job to support my family remains both my dream and responsibility.”
Following her three-day training, she plans to form a cluster group to apply the skills she learned about organic fertilizer.
“With the resources around me and the knowledge I now have on how to mix liquid and poultry manure, this can help generate extra income,” she said.
