Harry Jones was comfortably settled on the sofa by his mother after returning from school feeling unwell. In a heartbreaking turn of events when she went to lift him up two hours later she discovered he had died.
He died in September 2005 and since then his family from Wrexham has raised over £80,000 in his memory for Hope House Children's Hospice, where mum Julia Jones and her relatives received immense love and support following Harry's unexpected death.
They are carrying on their fundraising activities this year, organising a Golf Day at Carden Park on May 16, backed by CCP Building Products Limited, where Julia is employed. Read the biggest stories in Wales first by signing up to our daily newsletter here
Julia recalled: "Harry was and still is our wonderful little boy. He went to school as normal on September 8, was sick in after school club but was ok when I picked him up. He came with me to collect his big brother from football at 7pm, then I settled him on sofa.
"His twin brother Charlie and big brother Sam went off and I left Harry snuggled on sofa checking in on him. He was asleep and settled but when I went to pick him up when his dad came in at 9.15pm he'd passed away. To say we were frantic is an understatement. I relive this moment constantly.
"Harry's aunty is a nurse at Hope House so she asked if Harry could rest there allowing us to visit and spend precious time with Harry. I have never been met with such warmth and compassion. No words were said just a nightly hug when I got there, always knowing someone was on hand if I needed them.
"Over time we all had counselling through Hope House. The support we have received both individually and as a family unit has been amazing."
In 2012 Charlie was diagnosed with kidney failure, another trauma the family were faced with. "Yet again Hope House were there to support us," Julia said. "Charlie went on to have his kidney transplant and touch wood is doing well. In Harry's memory and our way of thanking Hope House is to help fund raise for this wonderful charity. Until we needed them we had no idea of the wonderful work they do. To date we have raised over £80,000 which we hope to keep adding to especially with CCP now being on board."
CCP Building Products Limited, a local block manufacturing plant based in Llay and part of the Sigma Roc group, has joined their cause, reports North Wales Live.
Julia said: "I joined the company in 2021 and have been amazed at the support the company has shown in helping our fundraising activities. All our events which we organise as a family in Harry's memory have been enthusiastically supported by all at CCP and the company has come up with fundraising events themselves hence the Charity Golf Day. This means so very much to us as a family."
