Cork manager Ray O’Mahony has made two changes to the starting 15 which drew with Tipperary for Monday’s Dalata Hotel Group Munster U20 football championship final against Kerry at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh (7.30pm).
There is a switch at wing-back with Matthew Woods coming in for Trevor Kiely while up front, Dara Sheedy replaces Darragh Gough.
The Rebels were unconvincing in the 1-11 to 0-14 draw against Tipperary down the Páirc two weeks ago in Phase 2 Round 3 of the provincial championship. Cork knew a result would secure their passage to the decider, so therefore the draw was sufficient due to a better scoring difference over the Premier County.
It required a late Bryan Hayes free to rescue Cork and avoid a shock defeat. The Nemo Rangers player had just returned from injury and it was timely as he scored 0-4 (0-2 f, 1 2pt f).
Speaking of injuries, Sheedy made his return when he came on for the second half in that Tipperary contest. The Bantry Blues man kicked 0-2 and also assisted a point. It’s no surprise that he starts in this one, which is a big boost. He brings that extra bit of class.
Ed Myers will appear on the championship matchday panel for the first time this year following his own injury problems recently. The Naomh Abán player is among the subs. The Cork management have no shortage of firepower on the bench with Myers, Gough and Micheál Maguire.
The old rivals met as recently as three weeks ago in Austin Stack Park in what was a flat performance from Cork as Kerry ran out 1-22 to 1-12 winners in the second game of Phase 2 of the round-robin series.
The Leesiders haven’t won the Munster title since 2021 as they look to stop the Kingdom from doing four-in-a-row.
