'Murphy Brown' Star Candice Bergen Suffers Heartbreaking Loss

Actress Candice Bergen's husband, Marshall Rose, died on Saturday, February 15 due to complications from Parkinson's disease. The 78-year-old actress married Rose, who was 88, in the year 2000.In a statement to People, Bergen's reps noted that she and her husband were about to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary prior to his death.According to his obituary, Rose was a real estate developer and philanthropist who dedicated much of his life to improving his hometown of New York City.Though Bergen and Rose did not share any biological children, his obituary describes him as "A dedicated father and grandfather [...] and doting dogfather to his beloved goldendoodle Jerry" and noted that he was survived by "his wife Candice; his children Wendi and Andrew; his step-daughter Chloe; and his grandchildren Alexander, Clio, Ell, Milo, Arthur, and Alice."Chloe is Bergen's daughter from her first marriage, which was to French film director Louis Malle. Malle passed away in 1995 due to "an untreatable lymphoma," according to CBS News.Of her first date with Rose, the Murphy Brown actress told the outlet, "I just thought I trust this man completely and by dessert I was sort of in his pocket."Bergen and the rest of Rose's family are upholding his legacy after his passing. Because his "proudest contribution was his thirty-year tenure on the board of the New York Public Library," the family has a special request for those who wish to show their love. "In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate a donation to the New York Public Library, an institution he loved so dearly," read the obituary. "Any gifts given in his honor (nypl.org/memorial) will be earmarked for adult literacy programs at branches across the five boroughs."
