MVP, Stars of the game from the 2025 Group 1 boys basketball state final

As part of our state championship coverage, the NJ Advance Media boys basketball staff will select a Most Valuable Player and several additional standouts from each game at Rutgers. Check out our selections below from Saturday’s Group 1 state final between Newark Tech and Thrive Charter. Marjon Skillman, Thrive Charter, Jr., F Skillman connected for a game-high 17 points and he took down 11 rebounds to lead Thrive Charter to a 63-51 victory over Newark Tech in its first season as a public school program. Skillman dropped in nine of those 17 points over the last 9:20 after Newark Tech had seized a 34-32 lead after trailing the entire first half. Skillman entered the game averaging 13.2 points a game. Other stars Tyler Hammond, Thrive Charter, Jr., G Hammond scored 15 points, 10 in the opening half to help the Titans to a 27-19 lead. He also finished with five rebounds and two assists. He was 2-of-6 from 3-point range and 7-of-7 from the foul line. Javion Cesar-Jones, Thrive Charter, Jr., G He sank 5-of-6 from the floor and closed with 12 points before fouling out with 5:45 to play after helping to steer his team to a 48-40 advantage. He played a pivotal role after Newark Tech had claimed a 31-30 lead with 3:05 left in the third quarter by sparking a quarter-ending 10-3 spurt with six points. Malcolm Bragg, Newark Tech, Sr., G Bragg netted a team-high 14 points before fouling out with 6:41 left in the game and the Terriers trailing, 44-37. He dropped in five consecutive points with a putback and a 3-pointer to give his club a 34-32 lead with 2:09 to go in the third quarter after Tech had trailed most of the game. Bragg finishes his outstanding career with 1,717 points. Rodney Tullis, Newark Tech, Sr., G Tullis scored 11 points and came up with three rebounds and three steals. He sank three straight points after teammate Malcolm Bragg fouled out with 6:41 remaining to pull his squad to within 46-40, but the Terriers were unable to thwart a late surge by Thrive.
