Forty high-tech surveillance cameras will be installed across hotspot areas in Nasinu.
The Nasinu Town Council (NTC) has identified the hotspots to fight crime and illegal dumping pf rubbish in the Nasinu municipality.
The first cameras are expected to be installed in Caubati, an area once labelled a red zone for drugs and crime.
NTC chairman Felix Magnus said the installation was a joint effort with Vodafone Fiji Limited, Fiji Police Force and the Nasinu Charitable Trust.
The goal is to make Nasinu a safer, cleaner place to live.
“These cameras are not about spying,” Mr Magnus said.
“They are a safety net for our residents to protect them while they sleep or go about their day. We are sending a clear message to criminals and illegal dumpers: ‘You are being watched.’
The cameras will monitor crime-prone areas including Caubati, Nepani, Nadawa, Kalabu, Narere, and Navosai. This move follows close collaboration with the Fiji Police Force and community policing teams to identify crime and gang hotspots.
The initiative is part of the wider ‘Hands Across Nasinu’ programme, where local agencies work together to fight drugs and crime. Mr Magnus said the effort had transformed Nasinu from a red zone into a green zone, a major achievement for the community.
“We owe it to our people to keep them safe. These cameras are just one part of a bigger mission.”
With 24/7 surveillance now rolling out, Nasinu is taking a strong stand — making safety and cleanliness a top priority.
