National team boss 'wants midfielder to complete transfer to Aston Villa'

Rangers midfielder and captain Nicolas Raskin is likely to have plenty of interest in him from the UK and overseas this summer - and his international manager would reportedly approve of the idea of him completing a move to Aston Villa.
Raskin has been at Ibrox for two and a half years after joining from Standard Liege in the January transfer window of 2023.
Since then, the midfielder - who has captained the Gers during his time in Glasgow - has risen to prominence and has made himself a fixture in the starting XI and, subsequently, has reportedly attracted interest from England and the Premier League.
Belgian Raskin, 24, has racked up almost 100 appearances for Rangers since joining, contributing five goals and 11 assists in all competitions last season and having played regularly throughout their run to the Europa League quarter finals.
Raskin, whose move to Scotland was supposedly influenced by then Rangers boss and former Villa coach Michael Beale, has admirers from south of the border, according to reports. Villa are expected to have another busy summer of ins and outs, while Leeds are looking to add to their squad having won promotion back to the top flight after two years.
His Belgium boss Rudi Garcia likes the idea of him being at Villa, according to reports coming out of his native country, because he believes that a midfield triumvirate of Raskin, Amadou Onana and Youri Tielemans playing regularly together at club level will benefit greatly the Red Devils' exploits ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
His former Rangers boss Philippe Clement has also recently been quoted as saying that Raskin would fit into a side in the English top flight, perhaps just below those in the upper reaches of the division.
"I think he's ready. I'm even convinced," Clement said. "Nico would fit perfectly in the Premier League. That's why I'm not saying he's in a team from the top six, but just below that he can calmly adapt to the level. Make no mistake: Nico has a lot of room to grow."
Outgoing interim Gers boss Barry Ferguson said of Raskin earlier this season: "Nico Raskin has potential to play at the highest level. His best years are still in front of him. He has been top class for me but he needs to make sure he continues that and continues to produce performances.
"It is important Nico Raskin learns from his teammates in the international side - he's got people around him that will continue to drive him on. He needs to have the drive and determination to produce this level of performance week in and week out."
