The eagerly awaited Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is nearing completion, with its grand inauguration expected in a few months. As the deadline approaches, infrastructure upgrades at the mega airport site are taking place rapidly. A video on social media platform Instagram has gone viral, providing the first glimpse inside the upcoming NMIA. The video offered the public a preview of how will one of India’s most advanced aviation hubs look like. Shared by Instagram user Ganesh Jadhav (username: @propertycoveage), the video has gained widespread attention, showcasing the newly installed baggage conveyor belts and workers working round-the-clock to prepare the terminal for operations. Take A Look At Airport Interior The video, taken inside the main terminal building, reveals extensive polished flooring, spacious interiors, and fully operational conveyor systems in the baggage claim area. Visuals show the workers completing final-stage tasks, indicating that the mega project is almost ready to welcome passengers. Though no dates have been announced yet for the inauguration, multiple news reports suggest the airport’s grand opening is likely to occur on September 17, 2025, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. Earlier, the project was expected to be unveiled on August 15 but technical issues in the terminal and taxiway work, along with the monsoon season, delayed the launch. What Are The Features Of Navi Mumbai International Airport? Sprawling across 1,160 hectares in Ulwe, near Panvel, the Navi Mumbai airport is designed to reduce existing burden on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai. The new airport also aims to provide a modern aviation alternative to the residents of Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Taking its design cue from lotus flower, the airport is an architectural marvel with three interconnected terminals, two parallel runways, and state-of-the-art passenger facilities. In its first phase, NMIA will have the capacity to cater to 20 million passengers and handle 0.8 million tonnes of cargo annually. The project is managed by Navi Mumbai International Airport Limited (NMIAL), a joint venture between Adani Airport Holdings (74%) and CIDCO (26%). Currently, over 13,000 workers are engaged to meet the project timeline. Reports suggest that the Adani Group and the Centre are eager to launch both domestic and international operations simultaneously.
