If you need some last-minute help with your NCAA Tournament bracket, the guys at MLive have you covered.
With the tournament kicking off today, Michigan basketball beat writer Andrew Kahn, Michigan State beat writer Matt Wenzel and football writers Aaron McMann and Ryan Zuke are publishing their brackets for the world to see.
Take some notes and jot down the winning picks, all below ....
Andrew Kahn’s bracket
National champion: Houston
Final Four: Auburn, Texas Tech, Duke, Houston
Sleeper: BYU
First-round upset: (13) Yale over (4) Texas A&M
Houston’s got a top-10 offense and defense (as does Duke and Florida), no serious injury concerns, and a hungry, veteran roster. Poor shot-making has doomed the Cougars in recent years; not this time. They cut down the nets in their home state, joined in San Antonio by another Texas school (Texas Tech). BYU rides its NBA point guard and exceptional 3-point shooting to the Elite Eight. I don’t love that a different 6 seed I have in a regional final is an underdog in Round 1 (Ole Miss). I took Yale as a 13 over 4 upset last season and I’m doing it again.
Aaron McMann’s bracket
National champion: Auburn
Final Four: Auburn, Tennessee, Alabama and Florida
Sleeper: Drake
First-round upset: (12) McNeese over (5) Clemson
An All-SEC final four … why not? The league was the best in college basketball season, and you can take your pick as to who might win it all. But Auburn is a complete team with a favorable path to the title. I really hope we get a Florida-St. John’s regional final. And look out for Drake, who I have dispatching Mizzou and (gulp!) Texas Tech en route to the Sweet 16. As for McNeese, Will Wade has one foot out the door already … me thinks he and his team will be motivated to pull off a first-round upset (and maybe more).
Matt Wenzel’s bracket
National champion: Florida
Final Four: Florida, Auburn, Alabama, Houston
Sleeper: Maryland
First-round upset: (14) Lipscomb over (3) Iowa State
This is a very chalky bracket I have no faith in because I don’t watch a lot of hoops outside of the Big Ten. So, might as well pick a Final Four that doesn’t include anyone from that conference. The SEC put a record 14 teams in the NCAA Tournament and Florida claimed the conference tournament title. The Gators have won 12 of 13 and are one of the hottest teams in the nation.
Ryan Zuke’s bracket
National champion: Houston
Final Four: Auburn, Duke, Houston, Texas Tech
Sleeper: Clemson
First-round upset: (13) Grand Canyon over (4) Maryland
I’m rolling the with Houston for a second straight year. Kelvin Sampson’s Cougars have been a model of consistency over the past five seasons, and this time they finally reach the mountaintop. Great defense has been a staple under Sampson, but this Cougars team can shoot the 3 and score, too. If Clemson can upset Houston in the Sweet 16, I like the Tigers reaching the Final Four out of the Midwest Region.
I usually don’t like taking too much chalk in the Final Four but am not feeling very bold this year.
