From Godwin Tsa, Abuja Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested Ihensekhien Miracle Obehi at Port Harcourt International Airport on May 3, 2025, for attempting to smuggle 2.523 kilograms of cocaine to Iran. Obehi, disguised in a hijab, concealed three wraps in her private parts, two parcels in her handbag’s false compartments, and swallowed 67 pellets. She claimed she was to swallow 70 pellets but could no longer swallow the remaining three and decided to insert them, according to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi. After days of observation, she expelled the 67 wraps. On May 9, NDLEA operatives at Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, intercepted Campell Kaizra Kofi Johannes Slifer, a 22-year-old British national, with 35 parcels of Loud, a potent cannabis strain weighing 37.60 kilograms, arriving from Thailand via Doha. Slifer, previously convicted twice in the UK for drug trafficking and robbery, admitted being recruited in London to collect the drugs in Thailand for delivery to Nigeria. In Niger State, NDLEA seized 3,047 kilograms of skunk from a fuel truck and three vehicles on May 7 along Suleja-Kaduna Road, arresting four suspects: Christopher Onyema, 47; Benedict Etineruba Young, 54; Chukwudi Ujue Jerry, 30; and Mohammed Abdullahi Danasabe. In Lagos, 109,914 pills of tramadol, swinol, and nitrozepam were recovered from two suspects on May 8. Additional seizures included 52.5 kilograms of skunk in Kaduna, 45,400 tramadol pills in Kwara, 505 kilograms of skunk in Bauchi, and 775 litres of codeine syrup in Kano. NDLEA’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) continued with sensitisation lectures in Sokoto, Anambra, Niger, Akwa Ibom, and Oyo. Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd) commended the agency’s balanced efforts in drug supply and demand reduction.
