This initiative is a collaborative effort between the National Emergency Management Organisation, the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), and the European Union under the Building the Resilience of CARIFORUM States to Disaster Risks and Climate Change Impacts (BRICS) project. NEMO said the summer initiatives are expected to boost awareness and knowledge on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), and Disaster Risk Management (DRM) in the Grenadines. The Summer Programme and Community Capacity Building Activities will seek to achieve three primary objectives: • Increase awareness, public education, information and training in disaster management at the community level • Improve general knowledge and skills on disaster-related concepts and issues for children aged 8 -13 years, and • Strengthen disaster management structures at the district or community level. Programmes will be hosted on each Grenadine Island as follows: • Canouan, July 14 -18, 2025 • Union Island, July 21- 25, 2025 • Mayreau, July 28 – 31, 2025 • Bequia – August 4 -8, 2025 The NEMO Summer Programme is expected to address pertinent topics such as an introduction to the various hazards to which each island is exposed; emergency management concepts and basic emergency management skills; and training that enhance preparedness and response at the individual, home, school and community levels. Alternately, the community capacity building programme will seek to strengthen disaster management frameworks in the Grenadine Islands to prepare for and respond to emergencies, through the strengthening of District Disaster Committees (DDC) on Mayreau and Canouan.
