Tony Hinchcliffe sparked immense backlash for ‘jokes’ he made during an October rally at Madison Square Garden ahead of Donald Trump being elected as President. At one point during his speech, he said: ‘Where are my proud Latinos at tonight? You guys see what I mean? [The border] is wide open, there’s so many of them, it’s absolutely incredible.’ ‘These Latinos, they love making babies too,’ he continued. ‘There’s no pulling out, they don’t do that. They come inside just like they did to our country.’ The host of the Kill Tony podcast also said: ‘There’s literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean now, I think it’s called Puerto Rico.’ He then said he thinks Travis Kelce ‘might be the next OJ Simpson’ and likened the Democrat party to ‘a P Diddy party’. He continued by making vile comments about Israel and Palestine, saying: ‘When it comes to Israel and Palestine we’re all thinking the same thing, settle your stuff already. Best out of three, rock, paper, scissors. ‘You know the Palestinians are going to throw rock every time, and we also know the Jews have a hard time throwing that paper, you know what I’m saying?’ he said, while mimicking dishing out cash. At one point in the speech, Hinchcliffe pointed out ‘a black guy’ in the audience, and drew on racist tropes about black people and watermelons. Now, Hinchcliffe has landed a Netflix deal, and people are seething. Hinchcliffe said in a statement: ‘Myself and our entire crew of Austin comedians, peers, and upcomers are excited for the opportunity to share our chaotic, insane show with a whole new chunk of the globe. ‘It all started in a room at The Comedy Store with 12 audience members and barely anyone watching in 2013, after world tours and 700+ Monday releases on YouTube it seems the persistence has paid off and now to think that I can pull a name out of a bucket and that person will be performing stand-up and an improvised interview on the largest streaming service in the world is both exciting and frightening. ‘It’s the most spontaneous and improvised show that is out there and the creative freedom given to us by Netflix to keep the show in its pure form is a comedian’s dream and we can’t wait to Netflix and Kill.’ Hinchcliffe’s rally speech sparked immense backlash (Picture: REUTERS) Viewers have threatened to cancel their subscriptions and are seething over Hinchcliffe receiving a deal. @ArtCandee wrote on X: ‘Tony Hinchcliffe, the “comedian” who called Puerto Rico “a floating island of garbage” at Donald Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally has gotten a deal with Netflix for three live comedy show specials. Hard pass on watching that guy. Do better, Netflix.’ ‘Very hard pass. What is Netflix thinking?’ @JenelleComedy said. @JPB1467 wrote: ‘@netflix your are f**king kidding me… just started to watch you again… well I only wasted 2 weeks … boycotting your a** again! Let us know if you ever get your shit together!’ ‘Think it’s time to cancel Netflix,’ @DennyWill14 said, while Joey agreed, writing: ‘Guess I’ll cancel.’ ‘It’s time to start cancelling Netflix subscriptions,’ @mleiden4760 wrote. @Nerdychick83 added: ‘It’s weird how Netflix has become such a dumpster fire.’ Following backlash Hinchcliffe received after the Trump rally, particularly over the Puerto Rico comment, a spokesperson for Trump told CNN: ‘This joke does not reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign.’ Hinchcliffe also doubled down on his comments, saying, according to the Huffington Post: ‘I apologize to absolutely nobody. Not to the Puerto Ricans, not to the whites, not to the Blacks, not to the Palestinians, not to the Jews, and not to my own mother, who I made fun of during the set. Nobody clipped that.’ Metro has reached out to Netflix for comment. Got a story?
