Recently elected TD Barry Heneghan has stated that he has "no regrets" about starring in Virgin Media's Irish language dating show. As one of the Dáil's youngest TDs, he joined Grá ar an Trá as a 'bombshell' entry, at the end of episode two.
Grá ar an Trá made its much-awaited comeback for a second series this Monday, and all five episodes will air over this week.
The programme faced a dramatic hiccup, originally scheduled for October 14, only to be pulled from broadcasting just four days ahead.
The unexpected delay was first linked to host Grainne Seoige's political ambitions, as she stood in the general election representing Galway-West.
Concerns were raised that her TV presence might flout Coimisiún na Meán rules ensuring fair media play for candidates during elections.
Yet, Seoige wasn't the only person on the show eyeing a Dáil seat. The 26 year old Gaeilgeoir Barry surprised many when he clinched a spot as an Independent TD for Dublin Bay North last November - preceding the original date planned for the show.
Barry, unfazed by the timing, shared that his episode was shot right after his councilor election victory for Dublin City.
Confirming his appearance today, the zealous politician revealed: "I will be on Grá ar an Trá, it was two days after I was elected as a councillor," reports the Irish Mirror.
Diving into his past before politics swept him up, Barry recounted, "Before I was in politics I was a presenter for TG4 and I did a lot of online creation for the Irish language. Did I think I would be a TD? No. Do I regret it? Absolutely not. It was great craic and you will have to find out if I found grá.
"I am now in my office, not at the house, some people think it was live! If you have any issues in Dublin Bay North I am working, not chasing love down where this was filmed, which I cannot say."
