New Zealand Build Big Total In 2nd Test Against Zimbabwe, Lead By 476 Runs
@Source: news18.com
Star wicketkeeper-batter Devon Conway, Henry Nicholls and Rachin Ravindra scored hundreds as New Zealand delivered a brilliant batting performance on Day 2 of the second Test against Zimbabwe at Queens Sports Club on Friday. New Zealand ended the day at 601 for three in reply to Zimbabwe’s first innings total of 125, gaining a lead of 476 runs. Conway scored 153, breaking a 16-match streak without a Test century. Nicholls, in his first Test series since December 2023, remained unbeaten with 150, while Ravindra smashed an unbeaten 165 at better than a run a ball. It was another day of dominant cricket after the Black Caps resumed on 174 for one, already 49 runs ahead. Zimbabwe took an hour to dismiss nightwatchman Jacob Duffy, who scored 36. Only one more wicket fell throughout the day, that of Conway, who was bowled off his body by Blessing Muzarabani when he misjudged the bounce of the second new ball. Nicholls was on 64 when Ravindra joined him after Conway’s dismissal. Ravindra, also a left-hander like the other two centurions, quickly went on the offensive and overtook his partner by the close. Ravindra reached his century off 104 balls. Stand-in captain Mitchell Santner opted not to declare despite the substantial lead, allowing Ravindra to add another 65 runs off just 35 balls towards the end. Zimbabwe’s fast bowlers Muzarabani and Tanaka Chivanga, usually the team’s best performers, were both expensive. Muzarabani took one for 101 in 24 overs, while Chivanga went wicketless, conceding 94 runs off 17 overs. Zimbabwe skipper Craig Ervine used seven bowlers in a vain effort to contain the run flow, as New Zealand piled up 427 runs for just two wickets. (With AFP Inputs)
