Saudi Pro League newcomers Neom SC are prepared to make a stunning offer to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana this summer, it has been claimed. Onana's long-term future is uncertain, less than two years since his £47million arrival from Inter Milan. The Cameroon international, signed by Erik ten Hag, enjoyed a mixed debut season at Old Trafford but his form has declined this term, having kept just 11 clean sheets in 50 appearances. He made three errors leading to a goal in the Premier League - the fifth-most of any 'keeper - and that has led to speculation increasing regarding a possible exit. According to The Mirror, Neom, who earned promotion to the Saudi top-flight last month, are eyeing up a move for Onana. Neom have the backing of Newcastle's owners, the Saudi Public Investment Fund, meaning there is cash to spend. A deal involving Onana would be expected to cost in the region of £35m - a fee that would help boost United's financial situation and give them a major cash injection for the summer window. Newcastle's owners, PIF, have control of several clubs in Saudi Arabia, including the big four: Al-Ahli, Al-Ittihad, Al-Hilal, and Al-Nassr. They completed the takeover of Neom, however, back in January 2019 and have been in full control of the club ever since, spearheading their push to the Saudi Pro League. Onana, 29, who has three years left on his contract at United, would earn a reported £15m a year if he joined the Saudi First Division champions. Former West Ham and Brentford midfielder Said Benrahma spent the second-half of the season on loan at Neom and helped them earn promotion. After Onana faced criticism for not keeping out Brennan Johnson's effort during the Europa League final defeat against Tottenham last Wednesday, Ruben Amorim dropped him to face Aston Villa on Sunday. Instead, Altay Bayindir was handed a start and impressed in a 2-0 win at Old Trafford. Explaining why Onana, Luke Shaw and Leny Yoro were left out of the squad against Villa, Amorim said: "Luke Shaw has a problem in his foot, Leny the same thing – two games before he had an issue and we want to protect the future of our clubs. Altay (Bayindir) is getting some time as a goalkeeper to experience football matches." Last month, Fabrizio Romano revealed that Onana is determined to remain at United for the long-term, despite speculation surrounding his future. "At the moment, it's important to clarify that Onana wants to stay at Manchester United and compete at his best level as long as possible," Romano said. "It's his desire to change the situation, help the team, continue at Old Trafford and follow his dream. "At the same time, Man United's management - together with Ruben Amorim - will assess the goalkeeper situation to decide how they want to proceed with that position in the summer transfer window. "So the situation could be open and it's an interesting one to follow."
