NFL Draft intel: Hall of Famer reveals his pick for QB1
@Source: yardbarker.com
Each week, Yardbarker monitors the 2025 NFL Draft, scheduled for April 24-26 in Green Bay. From a Miami quarterback to a Kansas State running back, here are five players we are tracking: Hall of Famer explains why he has Cam Ward as his QB1 In a Wednesday episode of "The Joel Klatt Show," HOF QB Kurt Warner explained Ward's arm talent jumps out. "I think he's just got a little uniqueness to the way he throws the football," Warner said. "Maybe a little more muscle on the ball. He has the ability to throw the ball off platform. So, I think you put [Ward] at the top because what if that talent transfers to the next level? Do we have something beyond that?" In his latest mock draft, ESPN's Field Yates has the Tennessee Titans taking the QB No. 1 overall. Tennessee could use a replacement for QB Will Levis, who posted an awful 27.8 QBR in 12 games last season. In 2024, Ward (6-foot-2, 219 pounds) led the FBS in touchdown passes (39 in 13 starts), winning the Davey O'Brien Award as college football's best QB. Do teams still like Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders? On his podcast Thursday, The Ringer's Todd McShay said teams still like Sanders (6-foot-1, 212 pounds), even though he displayed a "laissez-faire" attitude in one interview at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. McShay said teams are concerned about his film. Perhaps he's referring to his tendency to hold the ball too long. Per Pro Football Focus, Sanders averaged three seconds per throw in 13 starts in 2024, which was tied for 146th in the FBS. Sanders developing a faster release would mitigate that concern. Last season, he completed 74% of his passes for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdown passes. The 23-year-old didn't throw at the combine but is expected to work out at Big 12 pro days, scheduled for March 18-21 in Frisco, Texas. Is this AFC North team targeting Georgia edge-rusher Mykel Williams? At Georgia's pro day Wednesday, Williams told the media he had dinner with Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin on Tuesday night. In 2024, the Steelers finished 27th in the league in passing yards (192 YPG). But would they take Williams (6-foot-5, 260 pounds) instead of an offensive skill player? Per NFL Media's Mike Garafolo, Williams' 10-yard split at Georgia's pro day was timed at 1.59 seconds. That would've tied for the fourth-best mark at his position at the combine. In 12 games in 2024, he had five sacks. Don't expect Williams to land in Pittsburgh. In their latest mock draft, PFF's Dalton Wasserman and Trevor Sikkema have the Cincinnati Bengals taking Williams with pick No. 17. The Steelers, meanwhile, select Missouri WR Luther Burden III (6-foot, 206 pounds) with pick No. 21. Is Georgia safety Malaki Starks a potential first-rounder? Like running back, safety has recently been devalued. In the 2024 draft, no safeties were taken in the first round. ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. expects teams to make an exception for Starks, who had six interceptions and 17 passes defended in three seasons at Georgia. "If he gets to the late first round, somebody's gonna grab this kid," Kiper said Monday on "First Draft." "He's not getting to the second round. I can't see it, but I do think he could be a steal in the late first round."
