Tunde Delu's SSA appointment signals win for Grassroots Sports in Ogun The Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has appointed the pioneering force behind the popular Abeokuta Rugby Cup, Tunde Delu, as a Senior Special Assistant (SSA). The appointment of the current Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) underscores a growing appreciation for individuals dedicated to grassroots sports development within the state. While his background spans over two decades in corporate banking and consulting with institutions like Polaris Bank, Ecobank, and UBA, it is his passion and contributions to sports that have truly distinguished him. His commitment to promoting rugby in Ogun State is particularly notable. Delu is the "brain behind the inaugural Tunde Delu Abeokuta Rugby Cup," a grassroots initiative specifically designed to nurture and expand the sport within the region and beyond. This local endeavor showcases his hands-on approach to sports development, emphasising community engagement and the cultivation of new talent. Beyond rugby, Delu's extensive experience in national sporting efforts includes a role on the Local Organising Committee of the recently concluded National Sports Festival. As Chairman of the Catering Subcommittee, he successfully managed the monumental task of providing three square meals daily to over 10,000 athletes and officials from across Nigeria's 36 states and the FCT. Delu has once again been entrusted with the same responsibility, chairing the Catering Subcommittee for the upcoming Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) 3rd Combined U-18/U-20 Junior Athletics Championships, scheduled to be held in Abeokuta in 2025.
