(Nikki Glaser image courtesy of Dick Clark Productions Nikki Glaser did so well navigating host duties for this year’s bounce-back version of the Golden Globes that producer Dick Clark Productions has asked her to return for the 2026 ceremony next January on CBS and Paramount+. “Hosting the Golden Globes this year was without a doubt the most fun I have ever had in my career,” Glaser said in a release. “I can’t wait to do it again, and this time in front of the team from The White Lotus who will finally recognize my talent and cast me in Season Four as a Scandinavian Pilates instructor with a shadowy past.” Golden Globes President Helen Hoehne said Glaser brought “a refreshing spark and fearless wit to the Golden Globes stage this year.” Glaser was widely credited with bring some modest edge to her jokes about the stars in the Beverly Hills Hilton ballroom and the industry’s many challenges. She generally managed a savvy and amusing balance between the bland presentations of some predecessors and Ricky Gervais’ notorious scorched-earth monologue in his very intentionally last turn as emcee. Glaser’s agreement to return as host will provide the show with some welcome stability and continuity after some years of controversy and chaos. She was the first woman to host the Globes as a solo emcee. The Globes weren’t televised in 2022 after scandals around its former parent organization, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, led to a boycott and restructuring. The Globes, their parent organization, Dick Clark Productions, and several of the entertainment trade publications that cover the industry are owned or controlled by jointly or solely by organizations led by Jay Penske and Todd Boehly. Some 6.3 million people viewed the 2023 event on NBC, for a 1.1 rating. This year, Glaser’s show drew 10.1 million viewers and a 1.8 rating on Paramount Global-controlled CBS and Paramount Plus. Given the battered state of broadcast and cable and Peacock’s lower-tier status among streaming services, the ratings were considered encouraging. They remain far below pre-pandemic numbers such as 2018’s 75th Globes, where 19 million viewers translated to a 5.0 rating in the key 18-49 demographic. The Globes weren’t the only awards show revived this year by a smart and snarky enough host. Conan O’Brien handled the Oscars in March 2, confidently presiding over a ceremony notable for the five statues handed out for Sean Baker’s Anora, including best picture. Despite best actor winner Adrian Brody’s meandering five-minute acceptance speech, the Oscars even managed to finish in less than four hours, living up to O’Brien’s musical skit early in the awards where he promised he “won’t waste time." Combined ratings across broadcast and streaming for the Oscar telecast perked up to 19.7 million viewers, slightly above 2024’s 19.5 million who saw Oppenheimer win best picture. The final ratings were the best for the Oscars since 23.6 million watched the 2020 Oscar 'cast, held about a month before the pandemic lockdown closed down the movie business and sent the industry into a tailspin. They remain far below awards telecast ratings of 20 years ago, that typically topped 40 million viewers. Follow me on Twitter or LinkedIn. Check out my website. Editorial StandardsForbes Accolades
