South Africa had to settle for ninth place for a second tournament in a row of World Rugby’s Sevens Series, this time in Singapore.
The Blitzboks finished last in Pool A despite a victory over newly crowned Series champions, Argentina, on day one, relegating them to the minor playoffs.
They beat the United States 14-12 and then Australia 26-7 on day two to finish ninth and cement their place in the top eight in the series standings.
Kenya and Fiji will contest the Singapore Cup final Sunday afternoon, while Argentina and Spain will play in the bronze medal match.
