The drought is over.
For the second season in a row, Christian Brothers and Marlboro met in the Shore Conference Tournament.
But unlike a year ago, Christian Brothers wanted a different outcome.
CBA got just that as the second-seeded Colts, No. 16 in the NJ.com Top 20, defeated top-seeded and No. 17 Marlboro, 4-1, in the SCT final on Thursday afternoon at the Park Avenue Tennis Center in Oakhurst.
The title is Christian Brothers first in 33 years (1992). The Colts have had numerous runner-up finishes in the span.
Marlboro entered the dual on a 10-match winning streak against CBA and winners of the past four SCTs.
Christian Brothers (17-3), which fell 5-0 to Marlboro in last season’s final, won two matches in super tiebreakers this time around.
Second singles Luke Brennan for the Colts beat Kanata Sasaki, 6-1, 0-6, (10-8), and first doubles Dylan Cuneo and Julian Voorhees topped Leonard Reznik and Tyler Leung, 2-6, 6-4, (10-8).
Vincenzo Caruso also beat Sourish Gadhi at first singles, 7-5, 6-1, after Gadhi crushed Caruso a year ago.
CBA’s Teddy Perednia and Sterling Porter secured a point at second doubles as well as they edged Evan Albert and Allen Xie, 7-5, 6-3.
Marlboro’s (12-1) lone point came from Kenneth Sun at third singles as the freshman downed Ari Macaluso, 6-2, 6-0.
CBA, the projected top seed for the playoffs in South Jersey, Non-Public, has one more regular season match left next week against No. 3 Pingry.
Marlboro appears done with matches until the postseason. The Mustangs are also the leader in Power Points in Central, Group 4.
